Chesterfield County Utilities Reaches Milestone in Smarter-Tech Project
Columbia, SC - May 19, 2009
Chesterfield County Department of Utilities (County) has selected Advanced Utility Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Harris Computer Systems, to provide a new customer information system (CIS) that will enable the County to better manage public resources while improving service to its citizens.
The County’s decision follows a rigorous technology evaluation and selection project, during which time its project team worked with AAC Utility Partners (AAC)—a utility-specific, independent IT consulting firm—to research and document the County’s business needs, evaluate various information technology solutions, determine which solution best served the needs of Chesterfield County, and create a standard for measuring the success of the following implementation project, thereby maintaining the highest accountability for rate-payer dollars spent.
“This new technology will enable us to better track how public resources are being used, which will help us better manage those resources in the future as we continue to integrate smart technology into our public utilities. At the same time, the new CIS will also enable us to better serve our citizens. For example, we anticipate improved response to service calls, more reliable billing and better customer service in general for our citizens,” said Fred Angel, Customer Operations Administrator for the Department of Utilities.
The next phase of the project will involve the implementation of the newly chosen technology. The County has retained AAC Utility Partners to provide its proprietary NavigateOne project system and services for the remainder of the project to ensure quality control. NavigateOne is a comprehensive blend of AAC client-side services, which includes Project Management, Organizational Readiness and Project Quality Management, customer tailored to the specific needs of each client.
“We have seen throughout this selection project that the people who work for the County’s Department of Utilities are committed to the service of their citizens, a priority that came through clearly during the selection phase of the project and is continuing through the implementation phase of this project.” said Steve Wenke, AAC managing partner over consulting services.
AAC Utility Partners serves utilities considering or engaged in complex IT projects by providing independent assessment, selection, Project Quality Management and a number of other client-side implementation services. AAC is also the developer of NavigateOneTM, a proprietary project system comprised of methods, tools, templates and software, completely scalable and customizable to support the specific needs of any utility IT project. Leading utilities have delivered some of the most successful technology projects in the industry by employing NavigateOne early in their process.
