Bermuda Electric Light Company (BELCO) recently completed the selection and implementation of a new Customer Information System (CIS) that will greatly enhance the utility’s customer service capabilities.

To help maneuver through the complexities of such a project, BELCO selected AAC Utility Partners (AAC) to provide a suite of consulting, quality oversight and project management services. Utilizing NavigateOneTM—AAC’s proprietary system of processes, tools, templates and software designed specifically for utility IT projects—AAC helped the BELCO project team: research and evaluate the many technology solutions available, determine which solution best served the people of Bermuda and the business needs of BELCO, create a standard for measuring and ensuring the success of the entire project, and maintain the highest accountability for dollars spent.

"AAC's NavigateOne was a key factor in the success of our CIS project by ensuring that we followed a consistent, well-defined approach to identifying our requirements, evaluating vendors and finally selecting the right CIS software for our business environment,” commented Christian Blais, BELCO vice president of IT.

Following the rigorous selection portion of the project BELCO selected Cayenta, a Canadian-based division of Harris Computer Systems, as the best solution to meet its specific technology needs. BELCO and Cayenta then embarked on the installation and configuration of the software, with AAC providing its proprietary client-side Synchro Services in support of the BELCO team to ensure the high quality of the project.

“The foundation of Cayenta’s successful project methodology involves People, Process and Technology” said Brad Atchison, general manager of the Cayenta division. “Together with the strengths of the NavigateOneTM implementation methodology, which leverages industry knowledge, proven templates and project management experience, we were able to complete a very successful implementation at Bermuda Electric.”

Blais echoed Atchison’s remarks: “AAC’s accomplished project management team provided an essential quality management role that enabled our team to focus on delivering the project while their project managers steered us around the many pitfalls that can plague a project of this complexity.”

AAC managing partner Rick Cutter noted that the project was one to remember: “The beauty of the location, combined with the warmth of BELCO’s staff made this a special project for AAC. We were pleased with the work both they and the Cayenta team accomplished and are grateful to have played a key role in this very successful BELCO project.”
